Significance of Lord Ganesha
Ganesha is a Hindu god revered by majority of Indian subcontinent. Ganesha symbolises prosperity, intellect and success, and is frequently invoked to bless new beginnings.
Ganesha is first child of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati who symbolises Matter and Energy – the basis of whole universe.
Every element of Ganesha has a significance:
- The elephant head symbolises fidelity, intelligence and discriminative power
- A single tusk and another broken indicates Ganesha’s ability to overcome all forms of dualism
- Wide ears indicate ability to listen and gain knowledge.
- Pot Belly indicates infinite universe and ability to assimilate within
- The four arms indicates Mind, Intellect, Ego and Conscience
- The hand waving an axe represents cutting back on all desires, pain and suffering.
- Second hand holding a whip conveys getting rid of worldly desires
- Third hand turned towards Ganesha himself is in the pose of blessing and protection
- Fourth hand holding a Lotus symbolises self-realisation
Ganesha is often escorted by a mouse that represents alertness and wisdom over darkness
A Ganesha statue is gifted to invoke blessings and prosperity to receiver.
